Isla Fisher In Talks To Join ‘The Great Gatsby’ Cast

Ben Affleck may have found both his love interests for “The Great Gatsby.” With Carey Mulligan set to play Tom Buchanan’s wife (and the story’s leading lady) Daisy, it seems that Isla Fisher may play his mistress, Myrtle.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news, and while neither Affleck nor Fisher has confirmed their parts in Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic tale, they would join an A-list cast of already confirmed actors including Leonardo DiCaprio as the Great (Jay) Gatsby, the aforementioned Mulligan (who is Gatsby’s one true love) and Tobey Maguire as the story’s narrator, Nick Carraway, a man that finds himself perplexed by his pal’s somewhat questionable actions.

The part of Myrtle is small but pivotal. Not to spoil it for the seven of you who probably aren’t familiar with the story, but it’s her fateful death that leads to the novel’s tragic ending.

Luhrmann’s “Gatsby” serves as the third time that Hollywood has tried to capture the magic of Fitzgerald’s novel, joining the ranks of the Robert Redford-starring 1974 flick and the more recent 2000 adaptation. For those unfamiliar with the tale, “The Great Gatsby” revolves around romance and betrayal among a wealthy clique of friends during a sultry hot summer in the midst of the roaring ’20s.

The last time anyone checked in with director Luhrmann back in March, he was still in the planning stages for the flick. In other words, if you have yet to read the novel, you still have some time. So, please, go and read it. It’s really, really great.
